Puppy Love
June 2026
Meet Charlie! Hafi and I are the proud owners of little Charlie, who is a four month old Sheepadoodle. We’ve had him for three weeks now, and we’re so in love with him. He changed our lives from the moment we met him, and we couldn’t be happier. Which got me thinking about the benefits of having a pet.
Introducing Charlie
Charlie is a gorgeous little boy, who we have already nicknamed “monster”. He literally bites everything. He loves to play, and he especially loves to play bite. We’re constantly wrestling on the floor at home.
He’s also very clever, and he learned to sit, paw and turn within his first week at home. We still haven’t mastered the toilet training just yet, but he’s doing a great job.
Charlie has more toys that he knows what to do with. Whenever he wants to play, he drags his toys out of his pen one at a time and scatters them across the living room floor. He’s one little fluffy bundle of energy.
He’s also very affectionate, which is one of the reasons he is always biting. He won’t leave our side when we’re home, and he loves being carried around. Although I’m not sure how much longer this will last, as he’s getting heavier by the day.
Charlie has brought so much joy to our lives in so many ways. We are now a little family and we love every minute that we get to spend with him. He’s got such a wonderful nature, and he loves us so much already. It’s been fascinating watching him grow and develop these past few weeks, and getting to understand his little personality.

The Benefits of Having a Pet
The benefits of having a pet are many. They can bring so much love and joy into your life, and they can change your life in so many ways. Here are some of the physical, emotional and social benefits of pet ownership.
Physical Benefits
Less Stress: Pets can help to decrease the level of your stress hormone cortisol, as well as lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, reducing the risk of heart attacks.
More Exercise: Dog owners are more likely to meet their daily exercise recommendations, walking on average 20 minutes more per day than non-dog owners.
Stronger Immunity: Early exposure to pets can help children develop stronger immune systems and reduce the risk of allergies and eczema.
Better Sleep: Regular exercise and consistent routines with pets can lead to a better quality and more restful sleep.
Emotional Benefits
Less Loneliness: Pets provide constant companionship and support, which has been shown to reduce loneliness, anxiety and depression.
Increased Happiness: Interacting with animals triggers the release of dopamine, which enhances the feelings of pleasure, motivation and reward, and serotonin, which helps to regulate mood, sleep, digestion and anxiety.
Sense of Purpose: Caring for an animal creates a routine and gives owners a greater sense of responsibility and purpose.
More Mindfulness: Pets, particularly dogs, live in the moment, and can teach us to do the same.
Social Benefits
Social Interactions: Walking a dog or chatting about pets can often act as a social “icebreaker”, helping owners meet new people and create new friendships by bonding over their pets.
Child Development: Pets can teach children empathy and responsibility, whilst acting as loyal companions as they grow and develop.
Whether you own a pet already, or you are thinking about getting one, pets can really help bring joy and meaning to your life. And we’re not just talking about dogs either. Cats, rabbits, birds or even fish are great companions who can enhance our lives in so many ways.
And finally, many of you have asked to meet little Charlie, so when he’s old enough, we will bring him into the practice from time to time. He’s so friendly and he can’t wait to meet you soon!
